The Health Benefits of Dry Skin Brushing

I’ll admit, when I first heard about dry skin brushing I was skeptical. I had no idea how important the skin was for our health.  In our society, we are just used to slathering on make-up, lotion and perfume that not only clogs our skin but it all contains toxic ingredients that can cause hormonal disruption.  If you have any skin issues like dry skin, eczema, or psoriasis you do not have a lotion deficiency! You have toxic skin on top of nutritional deficiencies.

What is Dry Skin Brushing?

This is a very simple method to helping the lymphatic system.  Before showering, use a natural bristle brush (like this one) to brush your dry skin in circular motions upward from the feet to the torso and  then from the fingers to the chest. You will want to work in the same direction as your lymph flows which is towards the heart. Be careful over sensitive areas like the breast.  The more you brush, the less sensitive your skin will become.  After you are done brushing, hop in the shower to wash off the dead skin cells that you’ve brushed off! This is such an easy, quick thing to add to your daily routine.

Why Should I Dry Skin Brush?

  1. Dry skin brushing helps to increase the circulation to the skin so it helps your body discharge metabolic waste.
  2. It also helps your skin to breathe because it removes dead skin cells as well as opening clogged pores.  Without dry skin brushing, dead skin cells can just build up on the skin- gross!
  3. Dry skin brushing stimulates lymph flow.  We all know how important it is to keep the lymph moving!
  4. It helps to reduce cellulite. Cellulite is just toxic waste that has accumulated in your body’s fat cells. Dry skin brushing helps the body detox more efficiently and get rid of the toxic junk trapped in your skin.
  5. It helps make your skin soft and healthy!

How else can we keep our skin healthy?

The main nutrients involved in skin health are copper, vitamin A, vitamin C and zinc.  Healing copper issues will help your skin quite a bit since it involves all of those nutrients.

Foods like gelatin and bone broth help the skin too since they help collagen formation.

Stop using toxic beauty care products! Ideally, we should use as little product as we can in order to keep the skin free and able to breathe. Instead of lotion, use coconut oil, shea butter, olive oil, and even castor oil.
