Rebounding Health Benefits: Bouncing back to Health!
For those of us that have experienced adrenal fatigue, we can completely understand how exercise can sound like a 4-letter word. When you are so tired that you can barely lift a cup, the last thing you are thinking about is going to the gym. However, we all know how important it is to stay physically active. Well, I have found a great compromise for us- rebounding! I want to explain why rebounding is something that everyone should at least try.
Most of my followers know a bit about my story. I’ve had fatigue issues for nearly 9 years, but I always was able to “keep going”. There were several periods during this time where I worked 7 days a week for a few months straight. I was still exhausted but I still managed to keep going. I even did managed to start exercising at one point and dropped a ton of weight. Ever since the birth of my son, I’ve experience a whole different kind of fatigue which has made me realize that there truly are stages of adrenal fatigue. I know the difference between “lazy” and “tired” now, trust me! The fatigue I was experienced was debilitating to say the least.
Despite the fatigue, I did try to exercise when I can. I still wasn’t completely savvy on the knowledge of how sweating makes you lose minerals and how it can also make your adrenals weaker if your body isn’t up for it. But I got to the point where I just accepted that I had to rest and I would exercise when I felt like I could handle it. Well, that time never came! While 90% of the time I feel normal now, I still have not gotten to the point where I have the extra energy to exercise (probably because of being home with a 2 year old all day, but still!)
I’ve known about rebounding for about a year now. I was a little skeptical at first to be honest, but I finally got a mini trampoline about a week ago and I’m definitely a believer now. Within the first day of using it, I experienced what is my usual “healing crisis“: flu-like symptoms, extra fatigue and a lot of coughing up junk. I took a break on jumping for a few days and I started to feel better. So I jumped again, for maybe ten minutes one day. Once again, the healing started up again. I am nevertheless shocked at how well this simple exercise can move the lymph (and also at how much I really needed to detox!) I cannot help but believe that we’ve been ignoring how important the CORRECT exercise can be for healing from anything.
So What is Rebounding?
The main reason why rebounding has such a good reputation is because of NASA. This study showed that rebounding is more effective, more efficient and causes less physical damage than running does. How is jumping up and down on a trampoline so effective? It exercises the entire body without any extra pressure on any specific body part (like with running- it is very hard on your knees and ankles).
Rebounding can be twice as efficient as running, plus it puts less stress on the heart, uses less energy, and it helps to activate the entire lymph system. The best part about rebounding is that you can do it anywhere! A mini-trampoline doesn’t take up much space in the home so you can rebound while watching TV, listening to music, or you can even take it outside and bounce in the sun with the added bonuses of getting fresh air and Vitamin D.
What is the Lymph System?
The lymphatic system is one of the most important systems in the body. It is absolutely essential to keep this vital system functioning properly. The lymph system NEEDS movement to work properly. If you spend your whole day sitting at a desk or are just too fatigued for much movement, you likely have a sluggish lymph system.
The lymphatic system is very complex and it is a major part of our immune system. The main purposes of the lymph system are to
- remove excess fluid from bodily tissues
- absorb fatty acids and subsequently transport fat as chyle to the circulatory system
- produce immune cells such as lymphocytes and monocytes
.The lymphatic system is vital for both detoxification and the immune system, so when it is not working properly, many kinds of illnesses can occur.
Some of the symptoms that your lymphatic system is not properly functioning are: edema, swollen glands, constant infections or viruses, recurring tonsillitis or sore throats, constipation, chronic congestion, fatigue, and a clogged feeling in the head or behind the ears. Read more about supporting the lymph system in this post of mine.
This great article suggests rebounding 2-3 minutes every waking hour for optimal lymph drainage:
“Why health bounce 2-3 minutes of each hour? Because the white blood cell count triples in number during the bounce, removing toxins and wastes from the body. Within an hour the white blood cell count returns to normal, so “health bouncing every waking hour keeps the white blood cell count optimal in the body, and it keeps the lymph moving.”
Rebounding Health Benefits
So why is rebounding the BEST exercise? Let me count the ways…
- It is EASY- you can start off so slow with it. You can sit on the trampoline and bounce slightly at first just to get started. Then you can work up to bouncing without actually jumping to really get things moving. Eventually you can work up to actually jumping. I would recommend starting very, very slow.
- You don’t have to do it very long. Most avid exercisers are in the gym for an hour or 2 a day. With rebounding, you can get benefits from as little as 5 minutes a day. For those with adrenal issues, this can be so amazing to know that you can still get some exercise in without stressing your adrenals more.
- It helps your immune system. Rebounding boosts lymphocyte activity and strengthens your immune system. Because of this, rebounding can help those with auto-immune disorders as well as cancer. There are many stories around about people that beat cancer naturally and they used rebounding as part of their routine.
- It increases cell energy. Most people have very little energy in there cells. This is partially due to a few mineral deficiencies like copper and magnesium as well.
- It helps your skeletal system. Since most exercises are hard on the joints, they can create damage over time. There is no risk for that with rebounding!
- Helps move oxygen around the body which increases energy.
- Some say that rebounding is gentle enough for those with thyroid and adrenal issues to do without any extra stress.
- Helps to improve digestion
- Helps improve balance
- Who doesn’t love jumping on a trampoline??
So many of us are looking for easy ways to get and stay healthy. Rebounding is one of the easiest things to add to your routine that can truly have a beneficial impact on your health. There are so many benefits and very little drawbacks. This exercise has been HUGE since the 1970’s but like most amazing trends, it fell out of favor. But now it is back with a vengeance.
I went with a simple and cheap re-bounder at first just to get used to it (like this one) but there are some that are specific for daily rebounding that are supposed to last a lifetime. Eventually I will invest in a better one but for now, my little “cheap” one is working just fine.
Why Would I Have Flu like symptoms after Rebounding?
This is a common question I get asked! When we are starting to detox, our bodies push toxins out of cells and into the bloodstream. This can cause a wide range of symptoms but usually it is similar to flu like symptoms: runny nose, sneezing, soreness all over, more fatigue, etc. If the body is overloaded with toxins then these symptoms can be quite uncomfortable. Rebounding is a great way at getting toxins out of storage however we do need to be sure to be supporting our liver to get these toxins out. If the liver can’t keep up, then these toxins will just recirculate and end up in storage again. Read my post on liver support here so you can be sure to support your body’s natural detox pathways.
More on Rebounding:
This was super helpful! I just bought a rebounder and used it for the first time Monday. I have been VERY dizzy, light headed, and nauseous since then. I used it for 3 minutes yesterday and same thing, still feeling it today! I don’t know if I should wait now or what? I hope these symptoms go away.
Hey Tiffany! Glad it was helpful. That is definitely common to have some symptoms after rebounding. Since it stimulates the lymph it can get toxins moving out. You might need some liver support to help get toxins out more effectively- https://www.sassyholistics.com/best-natural-liver-health-foods-supplements/
