20+ More Simple Tips for Healing

I started my healing journey back in 2012, so I have gathered a LOT of information in that time. I wanted to put together a list of remedies and suggestions that are simple but super helpful! A lot of these tips are things I’ve picked up here and there. Most of the time, I try remedies myself before recommending them (if they apply to me in any way) so I can attest to a lot of these things.

  1. Use apple cider vinegar before meals to help with digestion. You can also do this before having a sweet treat of some sort to help with preventing any sort of reaction you might have to sugar. “Why not just avoid the sugar then?” I feel like we have to live life sometimes. If you really want a piece of cake or a big ole cookie sometimes, you should be able to have it without issues. Try 1 tablespoon of ACV in at least 4 ounces of water before your treat and it will help SO much. More on ACV here.
  2. Sunburn isn’t what we think it is. It has a lot more to do with internal inflammation than the sun itself. I used to burn constantly as a kid and young adult (even growing up in Northern NJ). Now, I never burn and I live way down in Florida now, and I have mostly British/Irish ancestry. Check out Earthley’s awesome post about this here.
  3. Way back when I started my healing journey I found a source that said about 80% of our energy goes into detoxing. When we’re depleted and overloaded, toxins get stored in fat and we cannot eliminate them until our foundation is stronger. This is why fatigue is often so bad in chronic illness, and why energy levels are often the last thing to normalize as we heal.
  4. The “healing crisis” is real, but I don’t think we need to experience to the extent that is often explained. When we start to heal, our bodies have to get rid of old toxins, release stored emotions, and rebuild tissues internally. This takes up a LOT of energy and we can often feel worse before we feel better. But if we can go “turtle speed” with introducing new things, we can prevent bigger healing reactions. Read my post on this here.
  5. The first thing I reach for with bloating, gas, constipation, or overall sluggishness is GINGER. Simple, cheap, effective. I usually mix 1 Tablespoon ginger juice and 1 tablespoon ACV in either water or apple juice and BOOM. I’m awake and no longer sluggish. Check out my ginger post for suggestions here.
  6. Marshmallow root is the first thing I go for when there are a lot of DRY symptoms. Stuffy nose, dry cough, dry skin, constipation- these are huge signs that marshmallow can help you. It’s one of the best herbs for healing internal inflammation as well. Read my post on marshmallow here.
  7. Dandelion root is one of the simplest liver healers you can use. Tea is best, tincture is ok. Dandelion root helps with liver health (quadruples bile flow), helps fat metabolism, helps digestion, supports liver function, supports the kidneys and lymph, and can help with chronic constipation issues. Read my dandelion post here for recipes.
  8. Nettle infusions are one of the BEST remedies for nearly everything out there. Most people tolerate this well (the ones that don’t are usually a lot lower in sodium than other minerals- work on sodium + add it to your nettle infusions to balance it). Nettle leaf herbal infusions are a whole body tonic- they support the entire body. Gut, liver, thyroid, adrenals, lymph, kidneys- they can truly help the entire body. They also help with emotional healing, especially when it comes to releasing anger and stress. Infusions are the best form and the only way you’ll get the MASSIVE mineral boost. Not tincture, not capsule. Read all about nettles here.
  9. Rest is so important on the healing journey. Many people grow up with the belief that you have to busy 24/7 in order to be a successful part of society. This starts from such an early age. It’s no wonder why so many people are dealing with chronic anxiety, insomnia, and stress related health issues. Take it easy on yourself. Rest is productive. It is essential in order to take care of others too- self care is NOT selfish.
  10. I recently read that cacao can repair DNA damage. I found a lot of cool things explaining this, but here’s one of them: “Flavonoids from cocoa in dark chocolate significantly prevented DNA damage, and improved the nucleus integrity of cells. This effect could be related to the antioxidant capacity of the dark chocolate that decreased cellular stress.” (source). I love to have a nice hot chocolate at night quite often: 1 Tablespoon organic cacao, 1-2 tsps of organic brown sugar, 1 tsp of OM’s lion’s mane powder, 10 ounces of organic whole milk, a dash of pumpkin spice. Heat milk, mix all ingredients together, and enjoy!
  11. Many supplements on the market are synthetic and owned by pharma companies. You may think you are “healing naturally” but you are still deep into the lies that pharma creates around health. Read my entire post on this here.
  12. Once you can understand how the body is a whole, you can see why unresolved trauma and stored emotions can make such a huge impact on our bodies.
  13. We often get clients that come to us that are on handfuls of supplements. 10,20, 30, sometimes more pills every day. Most of the time, they have NO idea why they started the supplements, or they were just told to take them, so they did because they thought they were meant to help them. Don’t fall into this trap of taking WAY too much for no reason. Learning to listen to your own intuition is so crucial on this journey.
  14. My personal opinion: blood work isn’t holistic. Hair testing is more reliable, less invasive, and more helpful. HTMA shows you 3 months of time (instead of just that exact moment in time like blood) which is more helpful when trying to determine how your body is functioning.
  15. Shaking, wiggling, stretching, and dancing are the easiest ways to boost circulation, help your lymph, and move stagnant energy out of your body. Just get up and move your body- no need to follow a video. Just start by wiggling a bit and see what feels good. LISTEN to your body.
  16. You can’t switch from blindly trusting medical docs to blindly trusting “natural” docs. At this point, naturopathy, functional medicine, and the like are just allopathic natural health. You’re trading medications for synthetic supplements. They are still trying to treat the illness/disease, not your body. Heal YOU, not an illness.
  17. Probiotics are so overpriced and imbalanced. You are much better off finding a few ferments that you enjoy and rotating through them. FOOD first. If you cannot tolerate ferments yet, you will be able to once you work more on healing- read this post on why!
  18. You cannot be scared of everything. You cannot control everything. Falling into the rabbit hole of “I have to avoid all toxins” is going to stress you out so much that it will impede healing. Be aware, yes. Ultimately, all we can do is our best. Clean up what you can control- your food, water supply, household products, yard products. Work on healing your foundation so you can detox better overall. THAT the biggest way to help to thrive in a toxic environment.
  19. Watching TV while scrolling on your phone is NOT relaxing for you. Pick 1 thing to do and focus on it. Needing to be busy or entertained all the time is a huge sign of nervous system dysfunction. You need more peace, time to slow down, happiness, laughter, love, and nourishment. Check out my nervous system healing post here.
  20. Food intolerances stem from nervous system dysfunction, leaky gut, and a stressed liver. It’s rarely about the food itself. Heal your body, heal your imbalances, and your tolerance for foods will improve. These food intolerance groups always say that all these foods/components are toxic to everyone, and it’s said to apply to oxalates, histamines, FODMAPs, sugar, meat, wheat, dairy, and even more. All this does is make people terrified to eat anything, or they resort to crazy intense diets like AIP which creates even more intolerance to food. The fear of these foods keeps your nervous system is in a high alert too, which continues the stress cycles.
  21. Did you know that more than 40% of kids in the United States have at least one chronic illness? That information comes directly from the CDC, so that number could be even higher than we realize. Since 2020, we’ve seen a huge increase in kids as clients in our HTMA programs. Many of them are dealing with severe gut issues, food intolerances, insomnia, inability to concentrate, weight issues, mental health issues, and more. Kids deserve better than this, and it’s up to us as parents to do the right thing (because the “healthcare” industry puts profit over common sense). Work with us here to help your kids, or check out my main post on kids health.

Bonus Tips:

We use a few main brands for our tincture recommendations. I wanted to outline some of the differences between them so you can make the best choice for you.

>>Earthley: Great for nourishing, gentle, affordable herbal tincture blends. They have a lot that is safe for kids and pregnant/nursing mamas. Shop Earthley here. Use the code SASSY10 for 10% off your first order.

>>Mountain Rose Herbs: they have a lot of great blends but we often chose this brand for single herbs (like blue vervain, wood betony, etc). Pretty affordable. They also have bulk herbs so when it comes to keeping things simple with convenient ordering, they are the best. Shop Mountain Rose Herbs here.

>>Herbalist and Alchemist: they have incredible herbal blends and single tinctures too. They are a bit pricier, however the tinctures also are *so much more potent* than anyone else’s. They do run out of things often too which can be frustrating. If you feel like herbs from the other companies don’t do much for you, try H&A. Shop H&A here.

>>Bioray- they have very specific uses for their tinctures. We still love Liver Life and Belly Mend. They are very potent too, and definitely better for those ready for major healing. They have several lines: Kids, Teens, Daily, and Clinical. Shop Bioray at Perfect Supplements. for the best prices, and use the code SASSY for 10% off your whole order.
